Microsemi (which acquired Symmetricom) has acquired the company's chip-level atomic clock SA.45s, which boasts a power consumption of less than 120mW and a volume of only <17cc (40.6mm*35.5mm*11.4mm). It features excellent characteristics such as a 120-second quick start and 1PPS locking.

The SA.45s outputs standard CMOS level 10MHz and 1PPS signals, with short-term stability (Allen variance) of 2.5E-10@1s, aging rate of 3E-10/month, and temperature characteristics of 5E-10 (-10℃ ~ +70℃). Additionally, wide temperature range products (-40℃ ~ +85℃) are available as an option.

The 1PPS output of SA.45s can be synchronized to the 1PPS of an external reference clock, achieving an accuracy of ±100ns. The 1PPS input can also be used to lock its 1PPS and frequency outputs to levels of 1ns and 1.0E-12, respectively.

The SA.45s comes with a standard CMOS-level RS-232 serial interface for controlling and calibrating the device. It also provides a series of status monitoring functions and can read the internal clock time information (TOD) of the SA.45s.

It is particularly worth mentioning that CSAC supports operation in an ultra-low power consumption mode, during which its physical packaging is temporarily disabled, and the device operates similarly to a freely oscillating TCXO. At the same time, the physical packaging periodically activates and re-locks the TCXO. The average power consumption in this mode is only less than 50mW.
